MY NAME IS COURTNEY WASHINGTON. I WAS BORN AND RAISED IN ALABAMA. I AM AN ELITE OBSTACLE COURSE RACING ATHLETE, COMPETITIVE ROCK CLIMBER, SPONSORED WAKEBOARDER, AND HYBRID ATHLETE. I HAVE A DOCTORATE IN PHYSICAL THERAPY FROM ADVENT HEALTH UNIVERSITY.
MY WHOLE LIFE I HAVE FELT LIKE AN UNDERDOG. I HAVE NEVER LOOKED “LIKE AN ATHLETE” AND THINGS HAVE NOT ALWAYS COME EASY. THE ONE THING THAT MAKES ME STAND OUT IS NOT BEING AFRAID TO PUT THE WORK IN. I STRUGGLED IN SCHOOL AND REMEMBERED BEING SO EMBARSSED THAT IT TOOK ME TWICE AS LONG TO UNDERSTAND THE MATERIAL COMPARED TO THOSE AROUND ME. I WOULD GET TO SCHOOL HOURS BEFORE CLASS AND STAY UNTIL THEY WOULD KICK ME OUT JUST TO KEEP UP. AT THE END OF THE DAY IT WAS WORTH IT BECAUSE I FINISHED SCHOOL WITH A DOCTORATE IN PHYSICAL THERAPY. THIS JOURNEY TAUGHT ME DISCIPLE, CONSTISTENCY AND THE NEVER QUIT ATTITUDE, WHICH HAS CARRIED INTO MY FITNESS JOURNEY.

RELENTLESS IS A GREAT WORD FOR HOW I GO ABOUT MY TRAINING. THE THEORY THAT TO BE SUCCESSFUL YOU HAVE TO DO WHAT OTHERS ARE NOT WILLING TO DO. THIS INCLUDES THREE A DAY WORKOUTS, RARELY TAKING REST DAYS, AND GOING OVER AND BEYOND WHAT MY COACHES PROGRAM. MY FRIENDS AND FAMILY OFTEN TELL ME MY TRAINING SCHEDULE IS CRAZY AND THAT I NEED TO BACK OFF. EVERY TIME I HEAR IT, IT MAKES ME THINK OF A QUTOE “LAZY PEOPLE DO A LITTLE WORK AND THINK THEY SHOULD BE WINNING. WINNERS WORK AS HARD AS POSSIBLE AND STILL WORRY IF THEY ARE BEING LAZY.” I NEVER WANT TO LOOK BACK AND FEEL LIKE I COULD OF DONE MORE.
I STARTED MY WAKEBOARDING JOURNED SHORTLY AFTER I GOT OUT OF HIGH SCHOOL. I HAD MULTIPLE FRIENDS WHO WERE INTO THE SPORT AND WERE WILLING TO TEACH ME. AFTER SEVERAL YEARS OF RIDING, I STARTED TO COMPETE IN LOCAL COMPETITIONS WHERE I PICKED UP SPONSORS INCLUDING RUSSELL MARINE AND HYPERLITE WAKEBOARDS. THE LIFE LESSON I LEARNED FROM WAKEBOARDING IS THAT YOU ARE GOING TO GET KNOCKED DOWN AND IT WILL HAPPEN OFTEN, BUT WHAT TRULY DEFINES YOU IS WHAT YOU DO AFTER. IT TAUGHT ME TRUE GRIT BECAUSE THERE WERE DAYS WHEN YOU WOULD SPEND HOURS FAILING WHILE LEARNING NEW TRICKS, BUT EVEN THOUGH THE PAIN WAS EXCRUCIATING I WOULDNT GIVE UP UNTIL I LANDED IT.

I STARTED MY ROCK-CLIMBING JOURNEY AROUND 2016, IN WHICH MY TWO BEST FRIENDS TOOK ME OUTDOOR CLIMBING AT A LOCAL SPOT CALLED HOSPITAL BOULDERS. I INSTANTLY FELL IN LOVE WITH SPORT. NOT ONLY DID IT CHALLENGE ME PHYSICALLY IT ALSO CHALLENGED ME MENTALLY. BOULDERING IS CONSTANT PROBLEM SOLVING, FINDING THE MOST EFFICIENT WAY TO GET FROM POINT A TO POINT B. THIS SPORT HAS TAUGHT ME SO MUCH ABOUT MYSELF FROM BODY AWARENESS, DEALING WITH FAILURE AND BEING HUMBLE WITH SUCCESS. IT TAKES GREAT DESCIPLINE AND CONSISTANTCY TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN ROCK CLIMBING AND OVER THE PAST FEW YEARS I HAVE STARTED TO COMPETE IN LOCAL COMPETITIONS. I WAS ABLE TO ACHIEVE MULTIPLE PODIUMS AND HOPE TO CONTINUE TO PUSH MY LIMITS IN THE CLIMBING WORLD.
